Welcome. I have been teaching Pilates for 15 years and have learned so much throughout my journey.  I discovered Pilates after my second child was born. As a very active person, I found that Pilates was the only form of exercise that was helping my body function effectively.  After taking a class at a local gym 17 years ago, I  realized that Pilates was the “thing” I wanted to practice for the rest of my life; and teaching was the perfect way to fit that in. I aim to help each one of my students bring Pilates into their lives to support their daily activities, whether they are super busy and athletic, or just going about their daily routines. I truly love that Pilates builds an amazing foundation within each person’s body and spirit.  Offering Privates, Semi-privates, Group reformer and Mat classes. M- F. Michele Stokes

Pilates Instructor - Owner/Operator of Gyre Wellness

I have studied Pilates extensively and it is one of my favorite forms of exercise. It is not only a fantastic workout, but it is extremely therapeutic. I have trained with the international Merrithew Company, and I am a Stott Pilates Trainer in Mat and Reformer. I also trained with 24 Hour Fitness and IWWA. During my career I also held an Ace Council on Exercise Group Fitness Certificate for 18 years and have been through multiple YMCA trainings, holding certificates for YMCA Fitness Specialist and Strength and Conditioning, their version of personal training, and YMCA Leadership Trainings. I love learning and studying, and I have dedicated my entire career to health, wellness and fitness.  My hobbies and interests include hiking and the outdoors, cuddling and walking with my dog, cooking, dance, reading great fiction and non-fiction books, and spending time with loved ones.  Offering Privates, Semi-privates, Group reformer and Mat classes. Katharine Livingston

Pilates Instructor

With a life long passion for movement education and over 30 years of teaching experience, Katharine draws from a variety of modalities to craft Pilates based classes that are educational, creative and engaging. Her personalized approach integrates her client’s goals with a system of exercises and specific cueing designed to develop awareness and to achieve optimal patterns of movement. Whether you want to improve your performance or need support recovering from an injury or surgery or just want to feel better in your body, her thoughtful and experienced guidance will support your goals while providing a platform to engage with and learn about your body. Katharine became a devotee of Pilates while studying dance at California Institute of the Arts where she discovered Pilates gave her a balanced foundation from which to move through the demands of dance training and performance. She went on to dance professionally for over 20 years without injury, which she attributes to keeping Pilates a part of her life. After graduating from CalARts, she moved from her home base in Portland to Philadelphia where she went on to be an active member in the Philadelphia Dance Community as a performer, choreographer, producer and discovered her passion for teaching. She received her Pilates teacher training under the guidance of Karen Carlson of Pineland Pilates and later studied the Classical Pilates Method with Romana Kryzanowska and started her private practice in 1994. Her passion to help her clients and her curiosity about the workings of all system of the human body led her to study other modalities including The Franklin Method, Feldenkrais, Thai Massage, Shiatsu, and yoga. Her teaching is influenced by all of these forms as well as her joy for the full bodied and expressive movement of dance.
